Mandy Antoinette

As I understand the conservatives were going to issue this provocative poster attacking Peter Mandelson – until they lost their nerve. So I will issue it on my blog today.
He is portrayed as the French Queen Marie Antoinette, and wears an ostrich-feather cap and fingers a rose as he says airily: ‘Let them eat cake...and look for a job in Belgium.’ The caption also refers to him as ‘Mandy Antoinette’.
This is in response to a wildcat strike which broke out last month at the Lindsey Oil Refinery in Lincolnshire about the use of overseas labour, Mandy Antoinette responded by stating that ‘UK companies can operate in Europe and European companies can operate here’ – the clear implication being that British workers should consider looking in other countries to find employment.
